Bernedoodles are a delightful mix between the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. At Budleigh Doodles, we breed F1 miniature size Bernedoodles. All our F1 puppies are bred from pedigree Kennel Club registered parents who have undergone extensive health testing. We carefully select our parent dogs for their exceptional temperaments, ensuring they are compatible with family life, children of varying ages, other animals, and the bustling environment of a busy household.
Our miniature Bernedoodles typically reach a height of between 18 – 22” at the shoulder as adults.
Our F1 Bernedoodles are the result of a mating between a pedigree Bernese Mountain Dog and a miniature pedigree Poodle. The sires to our litters will either be Basil or Rufus. You can find out more information on our parents under ‘our girls and ‘our boys’. Both Basil and Rufus are genetically health tested and have BVA hip scoring. They are 10 inches in height and 11 inches in height respectively. This means that puppies from all our Bernedoodle matings will be true miniatures of the first generation. True miniature matings are very rare and very difficult to achieve, making these puppies extra special.
Bernedoodles generally have a wavy or curly coat, which can range from black, brown, and white to tricolor patterns. Some puppies may have white markings, resembling the Bernese Mountain Dog’s distinctive appearance.
Careful coat care is essential for Bernedoodles, as their double coats are prone to matting due to their non-shedding nature. Regular grooming appointments every 6-8 weeks are recommended, along with frequent brushing in between to maintain a healthy coat.
Bernedoodles are known for their affectionate, loyal nature, making them wonderful companions for first-time dog owners and families with children. Their gentle demeanor and intuitive personality also make them excellent candidates for therapy or support dogs.
Both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle are intelligent breeds, so it’s no surprise that Bernedoodles are quick learners who adapt well to various situations. They require both physical and mental stimulation to thrive and, like most dogs, should not be left alone for extended periods. With proper training and socialisation, a Bernedoodle will become a loving, devoted member of your family.
