About Irish Doodles

Our breeding

We have been breeding since 2014 when we had our first litter of Irish Setters.  We have always breed first and foremost with health and temperament as priority.  Some of our Irish Setter puppies have also gone on to do very well in the show ring both as puppies and as adults. All our F1 Irish Doodles are bred from Kennel Club registered pedigree parents.

We added F1 Irish Doodles to our breeding programme in 2018 and we now breed both miniature and standard F1 Irish Doodles, along with miniature and standard F1b Irish Doodles.  Below is some information on these two generations.

F1 = Pedigree Irish Setter X Pedigree Poodle (We breed with both miniature and standard poodles).

Puppies from an F1 litter will have coats which grow to be wavy to curly in appearance.  The coats will be quite long as adults, with a ‘shaggy’ look.  Coats will be low to non-shedding.

Colours of coats will range in the litters from dark chestnut (Irish Setter colouring) to a more apricot or champagne colour (Dad’s colouring).  Some puppies will have white markings.  As puppies mature, there will be shades of colour throughout their coats, i.e. they will not be one block colour but will have different shades running though their coats, often with some white markings (generally around the feet, chest, chin).

Puppies from a miniature F1 mating are expected to reach heights of approximately 15–19” to shoulder as adults. Standard F1 puppies are expected to reach heights of between 19-26″ to shoulder as adults.

F1b = Irish Doodle (F1) X Pedigree Poodle (miniature poodle/standard poodle).

Puppies coats will be very similar in appearance to the F1 puppies, with some puppies in the litter (approximately 1:4 puppies having a slightly tighter curl to their coat which is more like the poodle coat, but longer).  Puppies from this mating will have very similar coat colours to the F1 puppies, ranging from dark chestnut (Irish Setter colouring) to apricot/champagne colouring, some will have white markings.

Puppies from a miniature F1b mating are expected to reach heights of between 14-17” to shoulder as adults. Standard F1b puppies are expected to reach heights of between 17-24″ to shoulder as adults.

Regardless of their generation, all Irish Doodles will thrive around people. They love being close to their families and will develop a strong bond with both the adults and children in their lives. As long as they are introduced early, Irish Doodles will get along very well with other animals (cats, horses etc), socialisation from an early age is key.

As adults, Irish Doodles should, ideally, have two good long walks a day, with some off lead time where possible as they love to run (gallop may be a better word!). They are also very quick learners and will thrive on pleasing their owners. Puppy training should start immediately and continue into adulthood to ensure that your young puppy grows into a well rounded adult.
